Can I base the calculation of my annual minimum payment upon my spouse’s or common-law partner’s younger age?

Yes. At the time you complete the RRIF account opening documentation, you will be asked whether you would like to base the RRIF withdrawals on your age or that of your spouse. There may be an advantage to using a younger spouse’s or common-law partner’s age in the calculation of your payment. By using the younger spouse’s age, your required minimum payment will be a lower amount.
