What is a PPN Cap?

A number of PPNs impose a further restriction on the variable return in the form of a Cap on positive performance participation. For example, if the PPN has a participation rate of 70% and a Cap rate of 6.50% and the underlying benchmark has a positive performance of 15%, the investor’s variable return will be Capped at 6.50%, not the 10.50% that a 70% participation rate by itself would earn.
