What are Notes that are Non-CDIC Protected?

Unlike Guaranteed Investment Certificates (GIC) and Index-linked GICs, Principal Protected Notes do not qualify for insurance coverage under the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation Act (CDIC). The notes do not constitute deposits of the financial institution issuing the PPNs and they are not protected from the risk of default by the guarantor under the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation Act (CDIC).
